According to reggae artist Vybz Cartel.....it is. Recent photos of Vybz Cartel recently surfaced on the web, which suggested that the star had bleached his skin. Well, just recently Vybz confirmed that he sure does bleach his skin and he compares it to whites tanning.
“This is my new image,” Kartel said in the interview. “You can expect the unexpected. I feel comfortable with black people lightening their skin. They want a different look. It’s tantamount to white people getting a sun tan.”
I was a bit shocked about how open he is about bleaching because, although in the African American community bleaching happens often, it is rare for one to admit to it. There has been an immense controversy over skin bleaching and it's health risks.
I personally understand the pressures of having light skin, because that's typically portrayed in the media as beautiful. However, I chose not to bleach because I believe it is very harmful to the skin . Though Vbyz Cartels comparison to tanning is a bit awkward, bleaching can cause harmful problems in the long run , just as tanning can.
The ingrediants found in some bleaching creams will shock you such as, Arsenic,Mercury,Hydroquinone, and
Alpha Hydroxy Acids.
